Supported by The Helen Diller Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, the Peninsula, Marin and Sonoma Counties, the Diller Family Grants Program in Jewish Studies provides competitive awards for research and/or travel for faculty, graduate and undergraduate students in Jewish Studies at UC Berkeley. The purpose of the Program is to bring campus-wide attention to Jewish Studies and to stimulate interest in pursuing research and/or teaching in related areas.
Proposals for funding must be received by 5:00pm on Thursday, 26 February 2009.
A selection committee, comprised of three Jewish Studies Faculty Members (appointed ad hoc) will
meet and results of selection will be made and announced by Monday, 16 March 2009. p>
Proposals must include letters of invitation and/or travel/research budget, with supporting documentation.
Payment of travel grants will be made prior the completion of the travel and/or research. Original receipts, travel itineraries, airline receipts and any other proof of expense must be submitted in keeping with University policy governing reimbursements.
You are invited to submit a proposal for the Helen Diller Family Grants Program in Jewish Studies. This grant program is made possible by the generosity of the Helen Diller Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco, Marin, and Sonoma Counties. This set of materials contains instructions, background information and forms with which you need to apply.
The Helen Diller Family Grants Program supports an annual competitive grants program for undergraduates, graduates, postdoctoral students, and faculty. Awards will be offered for research, travel, fieldwork, innovative teaching, and curriculum development in Jewish Studies. Faculty awards are begin at $1,000 with a maximum grant of $2,500 per grant and per year. Awards for undergraduates, graduates, and postdoctoral students will be begin at $500 with a maximum of $2,500 each.
The grant Review Committee will consider each proposal and evaluate the extent to which the proposed activity or program:
▸ is grounded in the applicants area of study;
▸ will further the applicants academic or intellectual goals;
▸ will make a potential contribution to the field of Jewish Studies;
▸ uses funds for the purpose of research or travel; and
▸ will make a meaningful difference in the applicants ability to carry out the project.
Grant applications will be reviewed, as received; however, final evaluation will be made and disclosed to applicants by Monday, 16 March 2009.

Reporting Requirements:
All recipients of the Helen Diller Family Grants Program in Jewish Studies will be responsible for:
1. Preparing and submitting a culminating report due 45 days after travel/research is completed.
2. Notifying the Program should your travel/research plans change immediately.
